LECTURE: Characterizing Molecular, Biochemical and Genetic Changes in Neurotransmitters in the Brain of Experimental Models of Drug-Resistant Epilepsy.
Luisa Rocha´s talk will be based on her studies focused on the characterization of multiple receptor binding, as well as subsequent transductional mechanisms in tissue obtained from patients with pharmacoresistent temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).
Her results suggest significant alterations in the GABAergic neurotransmission and altered signal transduction mechanisms downstream opioid receptor activation in neocortex of patients with TLE, suggesting important influences of seizure frequency and duration of illness on these alterations.
